Prayer is not crucial because it changes God, but because it changes me. When I pray, I see things more clearly, understand concepts that I never did, and begin to understand what God's will is for my life.
When I pray, sometimes, I feel like I am right and am confident in that area. Or, when I pray, I feel convicted that I am wrong.
I am going to give several links and I hope they help:

I hope this helps you understand where I am coming from regarding prayer. Talk to God in prayer and love on him like you would your husband.
Praying for you. http://shorelinechurch.org/sermon-videos/?enmse=1&enmse_tid=49&enmse_mid=129.
Happy New Year!
